Nicole · Australian Capital Territory, Australia December 2015Great location, a huge place for the price and fantastic value for money. 70's retro style to a tee! Lovely location and amazing hosts, full of quality suggestions and information on the beautiful local area. Highly recommend going to see the glow worms nearby, an experience that we never would have had without our host's information! Sorry that we could only stay for two nights, would have loved to have more of a chat and explore the area more. James December 2015 The Kakahi Adventure Lodge was an ideal home base for exploring the Tongariro area. We hiked the Alpine Crossing (house is 30 minutes from the start) and enjoyed relaxing evenings in a cute 70's house that fits the description. Maxine is easy to communicate with and very helpful for tips! Would highly recommend the Lodge and Maxine! Andrea · Rancho Santa Margarita, CA January 2016 Communication with Maxine was great. The lodge is very cool and 70's, very spacious. Good location for lots of nearby attractions.
Dawn · Singapore January 2016 Being someone whom has been in the hospitality industry for the past 15yrs, i must say that this lodge is highly recommended. It may not be 5 or 6 star luxury, brand new living with the most updated tech things (eg. ipad; ipod; designer style toiletries), but all details are covered. This is a pretty much hundred year old cottage, which has been given a new lease of life after much refurbishing & care. A lot details & attentions are seen. For example: - plenty of bath towels; face towel; floor mats - a central inverter warmer/air-con (lounge area has a fire place) - if the plugs for the lamps are too short, no worries, plenty of extention plugs. You just have to look for it - electric mattress (for cold winter nites) - well equipped kitchen; lounge room has plenty of reading books; board games - a well stack board on brochures of the nearby attractions. - just nearby the lodge, with a short 2km drive, you can see a colony of glow worms along a tall stretch of road. That's so cool. - all areas are carpeted, including the toilets & kitchen. But most important of all, the house is very spick & span. Kudos to Maxine & mike. Also, they are wonderful hosts, who will give u information on where to get a good meal; where to bring your kids;... they can even teach u how to fish, or go river kayaking (with a fee of course). Very nice hosts. - yes, there are lot of bugs at nite, especially when the sky starts to get dark. But as long as you close off all the windows, it is not an issue at all. Those bugs are harmless anywhere. - the only set back will be the internet reception. You can only get a clear reception near to the windows in the living room. But this is again, no big issue. yes, we would recommend anyone staying at the Kakahi lodge. cheers

Gregg · Carlisle, MA January 2017 Great spot for exploring the area. Convenient to Tongariro. Would stay there again. Excellent hosts
Andrew · Auckland, New Zealand August 2016 Great place and really enjoyed staying. Hard case place and really like going back to the 70's. Don't change a thing!
